Once
there was an old man who had three sons. The sons always quarreled among
themselves and got separated. The old man was unhappy. Soon he fell ill. He
felt that his days were numbered. He called the sons beside his bed. He asked
them to bring a bundle of sticks. They were surprised, still they brought it.
The old man then told his eldest son to break the bundle. He tried, but failed.
Then he told other sons to break. They also tried and tried, but failed. Then
their father untied the bundle and gave one stick to each of his sons. This
time they were able to break the stick of bundle. “What did you learn from it?”
the old man asked. The wisest sons answered, we are like these sticks.
